Here is another image from a walk in Healey Dell. It’s a great place for easy walks, although it does get very slippery in the kind of weather we have been ‘enjoying’ lately.
A bit further down was Broadley Wood Cotton Mill. It was built in 1818 and powered by this river. Because the river was fairly small and the water supply not always reliable, this factory was the first mill in the area to adopt a 45 horse power steam engine as its new power source in the 1870ies. With cotton production in India taking off the economics of producing cotton here, and in the UK generally, changed and the mill went into liquidation in 1927 and was demolished around 1960.
