The Breakers, Newport RI
This group of visitors tried for 15 minutes to get a picture with all the girls jumping in the air at once. I patiently waited to get my own picture with no one in it. My wife eventually had to ask them if they would step aside so we could get our picture. They did so willingly. I couldn't help taking their picture while I waited. Quite frankly I think this picture makes a better story than the one with no one in it. What do you think?

I think including the people in this photo adds an element of interest as well as scale.  The fact that the girls are jumping also adds a bit of whimsey to an otherwise "stately" architectural shot.

I think you are right, Roger. I like your "whimsy" adjective. They did seem to be having a good time. As you visit these stately mansions, you imagine prim and proper and conservative.

Pictures of buildings are often cold even when well composed however with people included the building comes alive.
