Slippers? Pouffe? Tunisian Hat? Good Price!
This gives some idea of what it is like in a traditional North African/Middle Eastern shopping centre. This is in fact one of the main 'thoroughfares' and it is fairly quiet. Sometimes the streets are so busy you can hardly move. Shopkeepers need more customers as tourism has not yet recovered from the upheavals of the revolution. There are not enough cruise ships coming in. The Costa Concordia, that recently capsized off the coast of Italy, used to be a regular visitor to Tunis.
I can wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Tunisia, especially if you are interested in visiting historic sites from the Punic/Roman period. People are very friendly and prices are very low. We had some lovely three course meals for £3.50 per person!
