Olympics Sunset
Sunset from the top of Blue Mountain in Olympic National Park. We were camped at Deer Park campground, just below the summit of Blue Mountain, near at area of dead trees visible in the photo. The rock in this photo is red colored and has orange lichen on it, both becoming very saturated with color in the last sun rays of the day.

Joe,

Great color indeed and nothing better than a warm sunset just at the right time.   I have never been here and want to go.   I noticed snow still in August in the distance.  How high up were you and is this a challenging hike or place to get to?   Beautiful...thanks.

Richard - though the Olympics typically have some snow all year long, there is a bit more this year because we've had a relatively cold summer. We were expecting few wildflowers because of our late August visit, but witht he cool summer, there were still lots of wildflowers present. This spot is just over 6,000 feet above sea level. You can drive to here (almost, the parking lot is about 1/4 mile and 100 feet lower than this spot). It is about a 45-minute drive out of Port Angeles.
