We were very lucky one afternoon near a natural hot spring. We were told of an annual, traditional Flores boxing event between two villages that has gone on for years. Villages would have these events yearly as a way to divide the land for crops. Whereas this is not the case now, the tradition still goes on. They can only box with one arm that contains a semi-soft ball while the other hand is for defense only. The fight stops if there is any blood and all participants seem to enjoy the event. What was nice...not for tourists! We were the only non-locals around and when we got there, they parted the crowd and allowed us to sit on the ground right up next to the fight. A great day!
