About TPN
Travel Photographers Network (TPN) is the premiere web community
for photographers who want to improve their skills and photographic
knowledge. If you're one of those people who still gets excited
about the prospect of jumping on a plane, train, car, bicycle,
skates, or even sneakers (trainers if you're European) to go across
the Equator or across the street, and if you can't conceive doing
this without bringing your camera along, then you'll want to join
Travel Photographers Network!
Mission
The TPN mission is
- to improve the quality of Travel Photography through the exchange
of information and specialist knowledge in a community of photographers
(both amateur and professional),
- to promote the work of the TPN membership, and
- to promote awareness of the importance of Travel Photography
as a form of expression.
Community
Travel Photographers Network exists because of the good people
who enjoy the TPN community experience, and who benefit from mutual
collaboration on specific topics of Travel Photography. The TPN
community experience is centred around the following activities.
- Support
The Image Critique forums on TPN are unique in the marketplace
in that the comments offered by members on posted images tend
to be carefully considered opinions about the images. They
highlight the strong points and make suggestions about potential
areas for improvement. Photographers of all levels who are
serious about improving their skills can quickly benefit from
the experience and expertise of their colleagues at TPN.
- Sharing Knowledge
The basic format of TPN is that of an online magazine, which
allows members to submit and review articles of common interest
about photography. The articles on TPN tend to be member written
records of travel experiences, or discussions of aspects of
photography and photographic technique. In this manner, TPN
members can learn from each other about potential photo destinations,
or how to get the best results. Readers are encouraged to submit
articles
to help share their specialist knowledge with the TPN community.
- Open Discussion
There is a discussion forum where members and registered
guests can ask and comment on questions and points of information
posted on photography-related topics.
- Promotion
Photographers can take advantage of their association with
TPN by exchanging links
. TPN has had steady improvement in its traffic ranking since
its inception in late 2003. The growing recognition of TPN
as a Travel Photography resource will help improve the ranking
of sites that enjoy reciprocal links with us.
- Recognition
Every week an image is chosen from each of our Image Critique
Forums as the Editor's Pick of the Week. These images are placed
into the Editor's Pick gallery, and do not expire from the
site. At the end of the year, prizes are awarded to the best
images posted by TPN members over the prior year.
- Membership Based
TPN is supported almost entirely through membership dues.
Limited advertising has been introduced to the site, but the
intention is to keep this to a minimum. In fact, the revenue
from the advertising allowed onto TPN is simply intended to
help sponsor advertising for TPN on other appropriate web sites
or print magazines in order to improve membership. Only non-intrusive,
photography-related advertising will be allowed on TPN. Once
TPN becomes self-funding through membership dues, the intention
will be to remove all advertising on the site other than for
friends and supporters of TPN.
