Gettysburg, PA
I spent last week in Gettysburg taking a leadership course for work. We toured the battlefield one afternoon and the tour guide tied it very well into our leadership course curriculum (i.e. the difference between Lee's (south) and Meade's (north) leadership styles and how it affected the three days of battle and ultimate outcome).

The picture associated with this post was taken from Cemetery Ridge along the Union line's position as they faced downhill over the Confederate's position along Seminary Ridge. As you can see from the viewpoint of this canon, there was little change for Lee's Army of Virginia to really take on Meade's Army of the Potomac. Meade's canons has complete control over the open field that Lee had to cross. Lee's overconfidence from victories in Virginia got the best of him and he pushed across this field anyway. He lost, as we all now know.

I went out to the battle field each morning at 6 am before class, and one evening until well after sunset. I will try to put together an article for the site.

Great shot that really conveys a sense of the place Walt. And your class sounds as though it was run by top pros. I'm jealous that you had the early and late hours, as well as the time, to do some shooting and exploration. My visits have been shorter and constrained by schedules, but it seemed like a really rich shooting environment with time and familiarity. Looking forward to more of your shots!

Thanks Hank. It was a real treat. The park opens at 6 AM and closes at 10 PM, so they really offer some unique opportunities for those who plan it out. I have some spectacular images from my week there, and being in a class meant I wasn't tied to any family obligations like breakfast or dinner at set times. In fact, I skipped dinner the last night I was there and spent three solid hours shooting from 6 to 9 pm. Oh boy, was that great fun!
