Hi Deborah. I haven't been around much in December, so have missed seeing your images. Please forgive this question from a native Pacific Northwestern, but where is Ashfield and the Bershires? (And if you tell me anyplace close by the Washington State I'll be properly ashamed).

I do like the contrast of the red barn with the snow, a very pretty scene. May I suggest possibly cropping out the post with with birdhouse in the lower LH corner?

Hi Judy-
Being a portrait photographer for 25 years or so I might look at images a little differently than some, but I will try to explain my previous comment. The accordion in your image looks like some kind of box, maybe even a lunchbox at first glance. What I meant by sing was the shot itself, not the physical act.

Expression is often the most important aspect in people photography. When we look at an image, we go to the face, and the eyes especially. This can be seen in the work of another TPN member Matt Brandon  http://www.travelphotographers.net/photographer_details/10410/Matt_Brandon

Congrats on the award!

Hi Judy-

I will try to explain my comments. Being a portrait photographer for 25 years or so, I have found that the first thing we look at when viewing a portrait is the expression, most of all, the eyes. Fellow TPN member Matt Brandon is great with this and you can see his work here- http://www.travelphotographers.net/photographer_details/10410/Matt_Brandon
It's very important to have sharp focus in this area and an expression that draws us in, giving an added depth to the image. As for the accordion, I would like to see a more prominent angle of it, in a prominent way, interacting with the subject. Congrats on the award!

Nice color and good job with the hard light. It seems that the island feels a little too close to the right border, do you have more with more area on the right of the island? I would possibly crop up from the bottom a little.

Very nice. I like the colors and the reflection. The shoreline doesn't look level. I would consider straightening it to make the shoreline level.

I really like what your going for here.......but you just got too much activity going on within the frame, and the viewer would have enjoyed just the children, or better yet, isolating a few of them, head to toe....

Hi there. Welcome to TPN!

I noticed that your photograph didn't upload. We've seen this problem before with new users to the site. Can you describe for me the process you went through to register and post your photograph? I'm trying to help the developers of our site figure out why this happens and any information you can provide would be very helpful.

Thank you all for your comments. And Bob, I don't find the criticism overly harsh. I am an avid amatuer at this point and still finding my way. I know enough about post-production to be dangerous but am having fun learning. This is a great community and I hope you all see improvement in my work.

Welcome to Travel Photographers Network!

I would love to see this a little larger to better explore the details in the architecture. As a critique, I appreciate the foreground landscaping and your effort to balance foreground and background. I think a wider angle view would have helped to include more of the walkway coming down the hill. I'm not a fan of how the walkway simply leaves the left edge of the image. It makes me feei the Oratory is facing out of the frame vs into or across the frame. It also looks tilted a little to the left. A little clockwise rotation would straighten it up.

I wonder how this scene would look in a landscape orientation. That would allow you to place the landscaping and Oratory along the right third of the frame, and allow some room on the right to perhaps follow the landscaping up the frame. It would also allow the walkway to come all the way down through the frame to the bottom edge, making a nice diagonal across the frame.

The colors are great. Rich, lush lawn. It looks like a nice, overcast scene where colors can really come out.

Keep 'em coming!

Walter
