Mount Rainier at sunset, taken in mid-December. You may have heard that one of the park rangers there was shot and killed last weekend, this image was taken just off the road where the shooting happened (but about 2 weeks earlier). The gunman escaped into the woods on foot. When I was there, there was about 60 inches of snow on the ground; when the shooting occurred, there was over 70 inches. I found it hard getting around on snowshoes. I'm not sure how the gunman made it anywhere. He did make it about a kilometer or so from this spot. He was found the next day dead, presumably from hypothermia, in a creek. The park has been closed all week since the shooting.
