An American Bald Eagle perches on a tree in Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (USA). Roger Maki spotted this one with his bare eyes at least a mile away, and we idled over to it in his truck at a careful pace so as not to spook it. There had been two eagles when Roger made the initial sighting, but I was sure happy with even geting a shot of one this close up.

This morning I had a great trip to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge, MD with fellow TPNer Patrick Flynn and his friend Bill Seelig. It's always fun to see how other photographers interpret the same scene when shot at the same time from the same location.

Sunrise this morning at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. I met up with fellow TPNer Roger Maki at his home in Easton and we headed out well before first light to this lush but hidden treasure on Maryland's Eastern Shore. It was a tad nippy out there but well worth the effort, starting with this shot.

I have tried for ages to get a decent shot of a pied kingfisher in, they've either always been too far away, bad light, weather or just too quick for me.. :-)

Taken on my last trip to the Sichuan Province of China. It was cloudy for much of the morning until the sun finally popped through at a great time. Among the THOUSANDS of Chinese tourists, I was able to snap this off and their National Parks actually do a great job at keeping the crowds on protected and confined areas, but emphasize confine! This was at Five Flower Lake in the park.

As hunters they work in packs, but as sleepers the hyenas are more solitary. The floor of the Ngorongoro Crater didn't look all that comfortable to me, but this guy was lights out.

This was taken at a small national park in the Sichuan Province of China in which I purposely over-saturated the fall colors to achieve this "flaming" effect. Interested to hear comments if this is overboard or effective to you all...just having a little fun here. I will be playing around with printing this on canvas at some point.

This Grey Heron was patiently waiting at another weir for some salmon coming his way. He was hoping for some tiddlers, I guess. Even though Herons are not small birds, I don't think he would have been able to cope with a full grown salmon. This shot was taken a bit earlier in the day, with a bit of wintry sunlight.

Spent a weekend in Ludlow and saw the salmon trying to jump the weir to get to their spawning grounds further up the river. I must have watched 60 or 70 jumps and only saw one salmon make it (not the attempt in this shot.)

From car window.
This Little green Bee eater was getting ready for liftoff to catch something and as he dropped his head slightly the feathers behind the head stood out like a shield for velocity.
I have never seen this before????

This is a much more placid depiction of the central Pennsylvania landscape than what I posted last week, and I like it much better - hopefully you do too.

Shot this morning at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge, MD. Not nearly sharp enough, but it's also severely cropped to get closer to the birds. Sigma SD10, Sigma 400mm, ISO 100, f/32, 1/40s, tripod.
