What are the computer technical requirements for TPN?

Forum Navigation

A variety of menus and links are provided for forum navigation.

Common Page Navigation

• The Navigation Bar links to all forums and other main areas of TPN.
• A selection of standard text links are provided on the bottom of each page.

Image Critique General Navigation

• The 'FORUM' link in the menu bar at the top of any page provides direct access to any forum.
• Viewers not logged in will see a 'LOG IN' link appear in the menu bar.

Members and Registered Guests

Members and Registered Guests who are logged in will see several more options under the 'My TPN' menu, including:

• My Profile - Where your personalised signature and forum preferences can be updated.

  HTML Tag Guide - Certain HTML tags may be used in the message and signature fields. The HTML Tag Guide opens in a separate window, which can be minimised until ready for use.

• POST A PHOTO - Where you can place an image onto any TPN Image Critique Forum for review and comment by your peers. See Posting Images and Comments below for further details on how to post an image.
• POST A TOPIC - Where you can start a new topic on the discussion board for comment by other TPN Members.
• MY PHOTOS - Will show a thumbnail page of all un-expired images you've posted to TPN.
• FLAGGED - Will show a thumbnail page of all images you marked as flagged.

Thumbnail Pages

Upon selecting the Photo Critique forum, a thumbnail page will be displayed.

• To view a specific image, click on the thumbnail of that image.
• To view all un-expired images posted by a photographer, click the 'All Photos' text by the photographer's name.
• If the Photographer's name appears underlined, it means s/he is willing to receive e-mail from TPN visitors. Click the name, and an e-mail form will appear.

Image Viewing Page

On the "View Image and Comments" pages, 3 'arrow' links appear under the image on the right side of the screen:

• Left Arrow - previous image
• Up Arrow - return to thumbnail page
• Right Arrow - next image

TPN Members and Registered Guests who are logged in will see two additional buttons at the bottom of the page:

• Add Your Comment - Which leads you to a screen where a comment can be made against an image. See Posting Images and Comments below for further details on how to leave a comment on an image.
• Flag Photo [Unflag Photo] - Which will add [remove] the image from your personal 'flagged' image collection.

Posting Images and Comments

To post images and comments in these forums, you must first log in.

Post a Comment

Please review the guidelines for posting comments here.

To post a comment on an image, enter your comments in the text field. You may also place "Smiley" icons in your critique by simply clicking the icon you wish to display. Use the "Add Comment" button to post your critique.

After posting your comment, you may edit or delete it by using the links provided.

• To edit a comment use the "Edit Comment" text link provided with your comment on the "View Image and Comments" page.
• To delete a comment use the "Delete Comment" text link provided with your comment on the "View Image and Comments" page.

Post an Image

To post an image click the "Post Photo" link in the grey menu bar at the top of the page and then use the following procedure:

1. Enter a descriptive title in the Photo Title field, no more than 30 characters in length (including spaces).
2. Enter a description of the photo in the Description field. You may also include Smiley icons on the Description Field. Place the cursor where you wish the icon to appear, and then click the icon you wish to display.
3. Choose a forum for the image. Current choices include:
   • People & Portrait- for images of people taken with limited equipment, and preferable outdoors.
   • Travel & Outdoor - for images of places, cultures, icons, architecture, or other travel-related topics.
   • Travel Challenge - For images that meet the Travel Challenge themes.
4. Set e-mail notification - Decide whether you do / don't want to be notified when comments are made against your image.
5. Choose a background colour for your image to appear on. You can select a standard background colour (white or black) via radio button, or designate a custom colour using a Hex code value.
6. Load the Image
   • TPN Members can use the "Browse" button to select an image from your hard drive and upload it directly to the TPN server.
   • Registered Guests may link to an image that is already uploaded to a non-TPN server, such as a personal web site or external hosting service by entering the complete URL in the "Enter URL address of .jpg photo" field. All posts with broken image links (including Editor's Picks) will be deleted.
7. Image size limits are as follows:
   • Image size must be limited to 640 pixels on its longest side. For panoramic images (horizontal only), images may be sized to 720 pixels in width but must be limited to 360 pixels maximum in height.
   • Maximum file size for images hosted by TPN is 200KB (RGB JPEG files only). The 200KB limit does not apply for posts that link to images on other servers. However, bear in mind that larger files will take longer to load, particularly for those on dial-up connections.

8. Use the "Submit Photo" button to post your image.

All images and resulting threads are automatically deleted after 35 days, with the exception of images promoted to the Editor's Picks or Staff Showcase galleries.

Once your image has been posted, you may use the edit and delete links provided. Please do not delete an image that has received comments!
