Moss, Ferns and Trees

Canon EOS Elan IIE, Canon EF 70-200/2.8L USM, Fujichrome Velvia RVP. Metering this scene was tricky given the dominant silhouette. I was aiming for a properly exposed fern leaf. I based the exposure on the sunny-16 rule. Since the subject was side-lit, I opened up a stop. Then I bracketed at 1/2 stop over and under this reading. This particular image was made at 1/2 a stop over the sunny-16 reading. Using aperture priority setting at f/8, the shutter speed was 1/180.
