I have been living in Oman for 5 years now, and have greatly enjoyed and explored some of its remote areas. The country is full of vivid and dramatic landscapes, from the fjords of Musandam, to the Rub Al Khali deserts, not forgetting the stark Hajar mountains. One of most enjoyable aspects of Oman is the people: warm, friendly, polite, and generally eager to interact with foreigners. Oman is a country undergoing very fast paced changes, where new top quality hotels and resort facilities are being built. However, traditions and culture are still very strong here, and tend to be preserved.
In my travels throughout Oman, I like to photograph the local people, as they are the common thread that sustains the fabric of culture and tradition. Quite often, I have arrived at some isolated village in the mountains, just to be welcomed by the locals, and invited to sit for coffee and dates. Many times there is a language barrier, but smiles and greetings go a long way. I have now created a small portfolio of images that I present here. They are my tribute to this lovely and friendly country and its people.
