The Turkish Coast

Recently, I was asked to join a sailing trip in Turkey.  Sailing is always a favourite activity that creates many travel photography opportunities, but when thinking of great sailing destinations, Turkey was not typically on the top my list.  As it turns out, the Turkish Coast is an absolutely fantastic place to spend time on the water!  The scenery is beautiful; the towns are picturesque; and there are incredible historical and natural sights that are accessible to all.

I had gotten past the Midnight Express misconception of the Turkish people many years earlier while working in Istanbul. The Turks are extremely warm, friendly, and open people. Their hospitality is unrivalled, and their culture reflects the mix of eastern and western influences of having one foot in Europe and one in the Middle East.

What really surprised me on this trip was how much Turkey has to offer along its beautiful Mediterranean Coast. We started out from the Sunsail base in Gocek, and headed east and south from there. The small bays and inlets are dotted with Byzantine ruins, stone tombs, small towns, and secluded beaches. But the best way to tell a story is through pictures, so follow the images and take a quick tour of this amazing area.
