There are numerous ways to correct images with Photoshop.
- If you shoot raw and have CS2, there is a measure tool in Adobe Camera Raw. Open the file in ACR and look for the little angle icon in the menu bar. Select that, then draw a line between two points in the image that should be vertical or horizontal with each other. ACR will automatically rotate and crop the image to properly orient the line you drew to the nearest orientation, vertical or horizontal. I just found this tool recently. It is really powerful.
- You can use the measure tool from the tools palette in Photoshop. It works similarly to the ACR measure tool, but it does not automatically crop the image. It just rotates it. It requires two steps. First you draw the line with the measure tool, then you use Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary to execute the rotation. I prefer the ACR measure tool because it all happens in one step and you get the added benefit of autocropping.
- You can use the Filter > Distort > Lens Distortion tool in Photoshop. That is a very powerful tool that can correct all kinds of orientation problems. It can correct for perspective, rotation, vignetting and distortion all at once and overlays the image with a customizable grid. You can get very exact with it.
- You can use the Edit > Transform > Free tool. This can correct rotation. It cannot correct perspective, distortion or vignetting.
- You can use the Crop tool from the tools palette. Select the Crop tool, select the entire image, move your cursor to outside any of the corners, click and move to rotate the image. When you have oriented the image to your satisfaction, press Enter. This is pretty much the same method as using the Edit > Transform > Free method. This method also permits you to correct perspective if you check the perspective checkbox in the menu bar.
Hope those help!
